Darren is Deputy Chief Executive of Carlisle City Council, where he joined as a Strategic Director in 2010. As well as deputising for the Chief Executive, his role also sees him taking responsibility for Community Services, Policy & Communications, Contract and Community Services, and Partnerships.
Darren has over 28 years of experience in local government working for Metropolitan and District Councils in Preston, Sheffield, Doncaster, Bedford, Wigan and Lancashire.
Darren is committed to local government workforce development; he is a qualified coach, mentor and supervisor and has developed a Cumbria Coaching Academy to support local leaders and managers.
Darren is married with three daughters and in his spare time he enjoys trail running, reading and dutifully following Preston North End Football Club.
